Namco Bandai has announced that they will be releasing free downloadable content for Ridge Racer 7to the Japanese PlayStation Store on the night day before Christmas. These screens and that bit of news popped up in Jeux-France and Gamefront.de, though there is no mention of a U.S. release in either report. It’s likely that the same content will be made available either at the same time or the week after, but we’re still waiting for an official announcement.
Today Evolution Studios announced that its next-gen racing game MotorStorm is the best-selling PS3 game in Japan. “It’s a real coup for Evolution,” says Martin Kenwright, CEO, Evolution Studios. “Developing MotorStorm has certainly not been easy — but the team here really delivered. Evolution has a reputation for delivering high quality racing titles, but we really needed to up the ante with Sony’s new hardware. We’re delighted that the public has agreed with the press, and made MotorStorm the current Japanese number one PlayStation 3 title. We can’t wait to see how it performs throughout the rest of the world.”
According to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey, a financial consultant for Take-Two Interactive Software, around 150 developers are hard at work on Grand Theft Auto IV.
The analyst also found that Rockstar Games is “fully capable of ushering in an entertainment experience categorically superior to the prior cycle’s GTA product.”

If you have no idea what Heavenly Sword is by now and you’re even remotely interested in a Playstation 3 then I highly recommend you start paying attention as it is currently without a shadow of a doubt the most impressive looking PS3 exclusive title that has ever been seen. At E3 ‘06 it was easily the one saving grace for the PS3’s potential that was immediately playable to convince disbelievers.
When the first HS trailer was shown at E3 2005 everyone with some common sense looked on in amazement, but with a bit of skepticism that no way the game would actually play as amazingly as what was seen in that trailer. Heavenly Sword managed to prove the exact opposite and it’s obvious the developers set out to silence doubters. They made sure to not only have the E3 and TGS demo take place in the same exact location as the E3 2005 trailer, but they also made sure that all the incredible combat animations the female heroine was performing in the 2005 trailer was also possible during gameplay.
It received many accolades for its technical brilliance and rightfully so it looks stunning from a graphical and gameplay standpoint and it’s the best indication thus far of what the PS3 will be capable of in the future.

The game does little to break the hack-and-slash mold, starting players off with a choice of three character classes; warrior, scout, and mage. Even with these different classes however, most players will find few differences between them during play. Melee attacks are upgradeable as the game progresses, but most players will find themselves relying almost exclusively on the original combos. Magic attacks can be assigned to the four face buttons and activated in conjunction with the L1 button. While magic comes in both offensive and defensive forms, it rarely proves useful except for during a difficult boss battle.
