Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be a PS3 exclusive

This is an excerpt from an Article  by  Destrucoid that reveals that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be a PS3 exclusive

I have been waiting for many months to finally say this, and today is the day. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will not be a PS3 exclusive after all. It has been confirmed that it will make its way to the Xbox 360 in 2008.

There is no true date set for the release at this point, but November of 2008 has been mentioned. This is not set in stone as Konami is working with Microsoft to bring the date forward as much as possible. MGS4 for the 360 will also come with exclusive content and gameplay that will not be in the PS3 version of the game. Some of this content is VR missions, as well as “Snake Tales” or “Snake in the Valley” (depending on where you live), which will let you go on objective based missions, some of which are very lengthy. These are the first two bonuses to emerge so far, but be ready to expect even more.

Konami is also in talks with Nintendo to bring a Metal Gear Solid game to the Wii. MGS4 would obviously have to be slimmed down if the chose to port the title to Nintendo’s console. We already know that Snake will be a playable character in Super Smash Bros., so this (along with the 360 news) doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

80GB Playstation 3 System out in June

A Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson has confirmed the existence of the 80GB Playstation 3 system – stating that there are presently no plans to release the super-sized machine outside of Korea. In fact, we’re told the 80GB model will be the only kind of PS3 sold in the country.

“The chassis of the 80GB Korean PlayStation 3 is identical to the chassis of the European version. The only exception is the larger hard drive,” read a recent official filing on the new model stateside.

With the 20GB model PS3 being dropped in North America, and the lower-end system failing to see the light of day in PAL regions at all, how long before this 80GB console does reach new regions? And, perhaps more pertinently, will the 60GB system be reduced in price when it is? More on all this soon.

Sony Blames Lack of Software for Poor PS3 Sales

Following the NPD results for the April reporting period, which showed that just 82,000 PS3s were sold in the U.S. for the month, Sony Computer Entertainment America reacted to its recent performance. The company blamed its poor PS3 sales on a relative lack of compelling software, but the good news (as revealed at Sony’s recent Gamers Day) is that plenty of titles are on the way this year, including 15 exclusive games.

“PS3 did see a dip in sales in April that we attribute mostly to a lack of new software in the market,” Dave Karraker, SCEA’s Sr. Director, Corporate Communications, said in a prepared statement sent to GameDaily BIZ. “For the remainder of this fiscal year, we expect a flood of new games for PS3 totalling more than 100 titles across all genres, including Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, LittleBigPlanet and many more. We feel strongly that this robust library will help drive hardware sales in the upcoming months.”

In total, during the month of April SCEA generated $271 million in sales, Karraker said. He noted that this was “buoyed in part by the addition of the PS3 platform… as well as the strong performance of the PSP at retail, which saw more than a 25% increase on an average weekly basis from March to April, selling 183K units.”
